The mandate of the project was given to CARD in the year 1999-2000 for a community based participatory watetshed development under IWDP(EAS) scheme of Min.of Rural Development,Govt.of Inida. Creative Action for Rural Development (CARD) is functioning mainly as facilitator (PIA). The project has been implemented as per the new common guideline for watershed development issued under IWDP on the recommendation of Dr. Hanumant Rao Committee by Ministry of Rural Development Govt. of India. Implement- ation of this project by CARD started in 1999. Duration of the project is 4 years. The approach of the project ensures overall devel- opment of the area with respect to socio-ecological transformation. One  of  the concerns of the project was about completing the various left over project works by participation of the user communities. Total area to be treated is 18200 ha. The project  covering seven development blocks of district Pithoragarh namely Bin, Kanalichina, Didihat, Dharchula, Munsyari, Berinag and Gangolihat.

The project is on its way of attaining its objectives in initial stage of program implementation. The first phase of project with good result in the watershed community have been completed.

As per IWDP Guidelines, only 5 % of the work has been taken up which comes under Entry Point Activities (EPAs). This is part of Rapport Building Efforts of the PIA. Even these EPAs are being done with people's participation and with the help of User Groups.

   To maintain ecological balance scientific forest management techniques like regulated forestry may be adopted, such as
Plantation sponsored by CARD afforestation with suitable species. To arrest illicit felling for fuel and timber, So far a total   1,04,585 Nos. of  plants have been planted under the program.The plants were selected as per demand of the villages and comprised of  various species of Fruit, Fodder,Fuel wood and Timber plants.There was lot of enthusiasm in various watershed  communities   about    plantation    and   their  participation  has  been overwhelming. A large scale plantation programme is taken up during winter rains
           Agro forestry   will  be  an economically interesting land use alternative for India's rural economy, because of  the expected bio-physical result, coupled with aggregate  supply  demand  picture    for   agricultural  and   forest  commodities.  Incentives   to  groups    for   agro   forestry    may  be   given  in    the    form    of revolving funds.

5 Stone Concrete Check Dams and Stream Bank Stabilisation have been constructed and commissioned. Other bank stabilisation and retaining wall Construction works are under process according to the need of User's group. Soil conservation works not only protect soil erosion but also include the optimum yield from soil and also treatment for salinity and acidity.

Six "Pucca" Water Tanks & "Ghuls" (Drainage Line) for the purpose of drinking water and irrigation have already been commissioned.

Six Minor Irrigation Ponds have been constructed. This process is going on and take fast momentum after rainy season. The village community have participated very enthusiastically in all these works and assured us to maintain these common property resources. Approximately 20000 people will be benefited from entry point activities.

The PIAs (CARD etc.) have distributed hybrid seeds, pesticides and kits among the small and marginal farmers for upliftment of traditional system of agriculture. Observed very good result and villagers have been convinced to form groups for adopting these new technique of agriculture. The administration is arranging to send one innovative farmer from each Gram Sabha of watershed area to Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, Hawal Bagh Almora, Plantiss Bhawali and Horticulture Institute Choubatia Ranikhet in the near future for training and exposure.
